Satte pe Satta — build out from the sevens

not checked yet

Every row starts from a seven and grows one card at a time, down to 4 and up to 10. You must play if you can, so the cards you hold back decide who gets stuck.

From Satte pe Satta (Badam Satti), an Indian card game related to Sevens.

What it shows a designer

Everyone builds the same rows, and holding a card back blocks the others. It shows interaction through a shared board instead of direct attack.

What you need

  • a standard deck: only 4 to 10 of each suit (28 cards)

How to play

  1. Deal. Use the 4 to 10 of each suit. Shuffle and deal all 28 cards, seven each.
  2. Open. Whoever holds the 7 of hearts plays it first. That starts the hearts row.
  3. Grow a row. On your turn, play a seven to start a new suit, or the next card up or down on a row already started: 6 or 8 beside the 7, then 5 or 9, and so on.
  4. Must play. If you can play, you must. Pass only when you have nothing that fits.
  5. First out. The first player to play all their cards wins.

After playing, talk about

  • Did you hold back a seven to block the others?
  • When did you get stuck?
  • Is it fair that you must play when you can?
