# Pick-and-pass — the drafting game

- From: 7 Wonders / Sushi Go (drafting card games)
- Players: 3–4 players

Drafting is a compact, satisfying game pattern. You see a small set of cards, pick the one that helps your plan, pass the rest. Others get what you didn't take.

## What it shows a designer

Drafting: each card you keep is also a choice about what your neighbour gets. It shows how passing cards along turns every pick into a gift or a block.

## What you need

- 24 small paper cards — write each card with a colour and a number (4 colours × 6 numbers per colour)
- a flat surface to lay cards

## How to play

1. **Make 24 cards.** Make 24 paper cards: 4 colours (red/blue/green/yellow), 6 cards per colour numbered 1–6.
2. **Deal 6 to each player.** Shuffle and deal 6 cards to each player. With three players, use only three colours (18 cards). Look at your hand without showing anyone.
3. **Pick one, pass the rest.** All players simultaneously pick ONE card from their hand to keep. Pass the remaining 5 to the player on your left.
4. **Repeat until cards run out.** Continue picking and passing until everyone has 6 cards. The hand shrinks each pass.
5. **Score.** Count the cards of your most-collected colour: 1 point each. Add 2 points for each run of three numbers in a row, such as 1-2-3, without using a card twice. Most points wins.

## After playing, talk about

- Did you stick to one strategy?
- Did you take cards just to deny others?
- When did you change plan?
